They banned sites with words that are contain key words... like: "freedom", "democracy", "constitution", "rights" those type of words because it goes contrary to what the Chinese government wants. They do not have Human or a Bill of Rights like we do in the USA, assuming you are from here. They also only have one party and it is more autocratic than here. I saw this from a news special when google decided to compromise its values to provide service to china. What could be the reason why mine is blocked is due to my discussion of Poland as a communist nation and how they are now free. At least, I can remember the post, if you go through you can probably find it. However, I am sure that is more than likely why mine was blocked. If you want more details, it appears that Harvard did a study on this specific topic:

hope that helps answer your question.

It seems like what they do in high schools banning youtube, myspace. So what exactly do they block? What website for example? Wordpress? Google? Yahoo? Porn sites like Playboy.com? Girlsgonewild? Aim chat rooms?

It is done through a government firewall. I am no longer in China, but in the USA, so it does not apply anymore. It is in part to restrict certain content from being viewed not deemed "appropriate." But good question, I'm glad you asked.
